The National Stock Exchange (NSE) expanded its futures and options (F&O) segment on November 29, 2024, by including 45 new stocks. This addition increases the total number of stocks in the derivatives segment to 223. Notable entries include Zomato, Paytm, LIC, Jio Financial Services, Avenue Supermarts, and Adani Green Energy.
According to analysts, inclusion in the F&O segment often leads to enhanced liquidity, better price discovery, and increased trading volumes. NSE MD and CEO Ashish Chauhan emphasized that these additions reflect the stocks’ improved liquidity and size metrics, aligning with SEBI’s revised inclusion criteria.
Criteria for Inclusion:
The stocks were added based on SEBI’s updated guidelines for F&O inclusion, which prioritize liquidity, trading volume, and market participation thresholds. These changes aim to support investor engagement, allowing efficient hedging and speculation opportunities.
Impact on Market Activity:
The addition of these stocks to the F&O segment is expected to generate greater interest in derivatives trading, enhancing overall market activity. This inclusion may lead to improved trading volumes for the respective stocks in both the derivatives and spot markets.
For members, NSE has advised updating their trading systems for these new contracts.
